Save state of "view" selector
"view" selector is nice, but it doesn't save it's state(as far as I know from my experience), it just resets to "list". If I always prefer to view files as images, not as list, why I have to switch it every time? Sorting selector does the same thing - resets to default. It would be really nice to have some option to save your choice in things like this.

You can use "Show Thumbnails" from User Preferences -> File . It opens file browser in thumbnails state when you set an image or movie, and in default state when you set something else
That's nice, but thumbnails are not only for images. Blend files also have thumbnails.
