Add tilde ~ on backup files
Backup files (blend1, blend2, etc...) are very useful but can be accidentally open when the intent was actually to open the latest version of a project. Other applications like Krita add a tilde "~" to the end of the name of backup files and most file browsers hide such files by default. This helps de-clutter project folders and prevents accidental opening.
Maybe this shouldn't be the default, as beginners may fill their disk space without knowing why, but a checkbox option would be great.

Or have a selection of a pre-labled folder like "BACKUP". What ever folder you save your project files to Blender makes a folder BACKUP and all the blend1 files automatically go there. Dreamweaver dose this with a "Note" folder.
hmm. But files already have another extension. My blender can't open it acidentaly from win-folder. If blend1 and blend are the same for you OS, probably you need to clear systen register of backup-extensions. And inner blender's file browser have a filter, that off by default {attachment 6140753jpg}
* @ Vyacheslav * Thanks but that's not gonna cut it. I use various builds of Blender depending on the task I'm working on, so I never open blend files by double-clicking on them. I drag and drop them because it's the fastest way to open them from any specific build.
I didn't even known about that. Cool then!
Wouldn't it just be easier to make a filter option to hide the save versions?
EDIT : Oops... nevermind. I didn't catch on at first that you wanted the files hidden in the OS file browser. Still personally not a fan of the idea, but at least I better understand the proposal.
