Select all objects of a collection or scene
I think it would be a good idea to select all the objects of a collection or scene by double left clicking on the icon of the collection or scene

Can you be more accurate ? Selecting all objects is already doable by pressing A in any area of blender (3D, outliner, keyframes, uv...). If you don't use the A/Dbl-A shortcut, try Ctrl+A. To select objects in a collection, you can either select one of the object of that collection and use the Shift+G shortcut. Or in the outliner, right click the collection and click "Select Hierarchy".
Thanks, I didn't know about the Shift+G collection thing. But I did know about the Select hierarchy in outliner.
They are BOTH cumbersome though to select Collections and/or children of an object. Just too many clicks in menus!
Also with Ctrl+G / children I lose the selection of the original object
In the outliner it's just bothersome to be honest. All shortcuts seem to be free: Alt, Shift, Ctrl or a combination of those, double click + the option to do this on the name of the object, on its icon or even in their dead space on the right. These are all free options, and adding any would be immensely helpful to speed up selection. They are a missed opportunity so I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. This should happen.
Although a note to the OP, you should update your idea with other than double clicking options - as I mentioned.
So it's more appealing as devs couldn't just ignore it saying, "double click is not standard" or "we use it for other stuff" :)
If you loose selection with Shift+G, just tick the "extend" boolean in the operator panel that pops up (or F9 to show it if i remember well)
