Image Texture Input for Shading Editor like in GeoNodes

Hello Community and Devs!

I'm working on a shading project where I need to manipulate the UV of some images and videos, but I've encountered some issues.

To manipulate the texture coordinates, the Image Texture Node needs to be inside the Node Group. However, I've noticed that the Image Texture node in Geometry Nodes has an "Image Input" socket, which isn't available in the Shader Editor for the equivalent node. Therefore, my suggestion is to add the same feature to the Shader Editor. This way, we could input an image or video from outside the Node Group and manipulate the UV within the node group.

I've found a workaround that almost does what I need. I've used the Checker Texture node because it has 2 Color Inputs and a Vector Input. The problem with this approach is that I can't manipulate the UV of an image. If I plug an RGB node into the Checker Texture, I can manipulate it, but as soon as I plug in an image texture, it's no longer possible.

There might be a way to achieve this that I'm not aware of, but I'm certain that implementing this feature would significantly improve the user experience when building and sharing large node groups. Shader Editor Suggestion.png
