Game engine in blender

Bring back game engine. Blender has everything, scripting, modeling, animation, 2D or 3D. Why not a game engine too?

If you are a game developer, you know you can make a game in a game engine or pure coding.

There are a lot of game engines out there, but they all are overwhelming for a beginner (I had a pretty hard time changing to a game engine from a pure code game developer). And also for a beginner, the other game engines force you to use their physics and collision and stuff like that. Yes, you can use your own, but it takes a lot of time to get used to the game engine for making your physics. If you make a blender a lot simpler ( I meant a lot), just 3d viewport, rendering, and modeling. No physics, no collision, you can make your own.

And I like Blender because I've seen people making water simulations, collision, gravity physics in blender. So if you are a pro game developer you can use that, but for a beginner you wouldn't even you could make these. Making the learning process a lot simpler.

The problem with Pure code is that it takes a lot of time to setup the rendering and importing 3d things. Making developers lose their motivation. But if you just have a view port, and can add, change the size and shape of the objects from the code, the possibilities are endless.

Conclusion:

  • Make a game engine. It has to be easy for beginner, unlike Unity, Unreal, etc...
  • Make the game engine usable for both game engine developers and pure code developers.

No, no, and please NO.

And some things require a long time of study and learning. Game development is in that category. There are many engines out there, that are very popular and very supported by their communities. You should eval and use one of those options.

If you want to get into gamedev I'd highly recommend a dedicated game engine for beginner projects or simply learning an all purpose engine. Most of the mainstream ones are really accessible these days and you can't have any setup taken from you. If that is what you want then you might be better off using either a dedicated game creator like RPG Maker or even simply modding a game of your choice. Some of them even spawn their own standalone games like Selaco or Supplice. Both based on Doom 1 originally.

For Blender it's just not feasible any more. Blender is a content creation suite and not a development environment. Not to mention that the amount of work necessary to maintain a game engine alone can easily take half of the dev focus. And chances are it still wouldn't be what you imagine it to be.

Blender as a program is meant for content creation and it already is a very capable jack of all trades. Just look at the current game project they have going on. It's made in Godot and it looks really good. Or try UPBGE if you want to use Blender as a game engine. The engine uses Blender's game enigne as a foundation. But I have no idea of how stable or complete it is.

For Blender though - it's a good thing the game engine was removed and gave place to developing the strengths of the program. The games market and demands have changed so drastically that it's simply better to look to a dedicated engine. Sooner or later you will have to learn all of that "difficult stuff" anyways. Aside from game creators or modes there simply is no way around it.

With what staff is that game engine suppose to keep up with the development of UE, Unity, etc??? It was one of the best choices to get rid of the engine and focus on more essential things.

Why not just use Upbge or armory 3d lol? It's what you want i think. The people keep them up to date. ( at least the Upbge people do )
