Rendering camera background images

Working in production there's often the need to present a model A over B against a concept. It'd be great to have the ability to render out the camera background image, especially now with the ability of keying object visibility. It'd be a quick and easy way to make presentation renders showing the model against a concept drawing. (not sure what the view as render checkbox does in the camera/background images section, but it could do exactly that)

until there is some work on the topic, here is a short script which can read the camera background image properties and setup some compositor nodes automatically:

Yes. This feature would be useful, and this is coming from someone who's used the VSE and compositor together many times in a professional setting

You could add a button that places the clip in a shader on a geometry plane parented to the camera. The shader editor is a real time compositor alternative which can be used in combination with the NLA editor. Plenty can be rendered and handled through this kind of setup if you want to avoid the VSE and compositor.

* @simon.p.heggie * Another workaround:

Go into your world shader editor, map a clip to camera.

That will play in real time and render so long as you have 'transparency' switched off in the render properties.

It is exist already. Jump to camera and drag image into view. Then tune.

Have you tried adding putting the render and the image together in the compositor?

* @ammusionist * I was hoping to skip that step by just hitting render and getting both in one go. Also, I may modify the image settings in the camera options, offset/scale it, etc.

* @3dddan * It would be nice if the Transform node could read the Background Image scale / offset this way. Best of both worlds!

Didn't mean to imply it wasn't a good idea, just that there was already a way to achieve this.

* @ammusionist * yes, I agree - but it could be simplified and made more streamline, even with simple things like this. I have to do it several times a day in pre prod, with getting images which have a different aspect ratio than the desired presentation cameras this is something that requires a few extra steps.
