Automatic ADD NODE After Link/Connect to Empty Space

Motivation Currently, when making a link to an empty space does nothing.

Proposal If the link/connect ends on an empty space, automatically bring out Add Node. This can speed up a lot of thing and make the compositing, material creation etc. more convenient.

After choosing the desired node to be added, automatically creating a link between the two nodes like in Node Wranglers “Link Active to Selected” would be awesome addition

see the images over here … developer.blender.org/T48588 please consider to make it in both directions, from outputs and inputs also

Many thanks for considering this easy to implement, extreme speed up to the workflow .

Cheers, Jozef

I was surprised blender doesn't have this. UE4 has it. And its a huge time saver

Good alternative to a search. I personally don't like writing a lot for specific nodes.. and I really would love tomove away from the "Shift+A" workflow for something just like this which could jsut be a click and drag.

Khm khm ... Few days before. Maybe you asking just exactly for " Add " as it is to find item in menu and click? Not for " Search " and type part of name...?

My few years experience in UE 4 material editor knowledge allow me to type most common nodes in a second. Like for " Texture Coordinate " - just " coord " + Enter, " " Multiply " - " mult " + Enter, etc. No need to point & click on something. And believe me in Unreal there lot lot more nodes... Search method works very fast & efficient.

But maybe it can be implement as flip-flop option in Preferences to call " Search " immediately or " Add " menu as it is.

@forestgumpovu4: my post have got no attention for 2 years ;) Automatic ADD NODE After Link/Connect to Empty Space ... so I made it once again since a lot of development is going on now, and it would be a nice to have in 2.8 ... and I did not recognized your post :) PS: you have my vote ;)

@forestgumpovu4: same as for the add menu, "hp" = add shader principle "vb" = bump map node... Ect

There are now 3 threads about this lol.
