Selection Mode Cursor
In 2.8, we now have the ability to quickly toggle through selection modes by tapping the W key. This is awesome, but there's no visual distinction between these when looking at the viewport - EXCEPT for Circle Select mode. In this case, we get a circle, which makes it easy to tell which mode we're in when looking at the cursor.
While it's true that you can simply look at the toolbar to tell which mode you're in, it would be great to apply a visual indicator to the cursor (perhaps as an option in the prefs that can be turned on and off) to know which selection mode you're in. Krita does this for its various selection mode. Photoshop does it for its Polygonal, Lasso and Magnetic Lasso selection modes. It would be great to have this in Blender as well.

cursors icons need to be improved
This issue is nuanced. The circle you see is not a hardware cursor but the 3dview painting radius feedback, that can be adjusted, just like for brushes.
It seems reasonable to consider using more custom cursors, but why not for all mouse modes instead of just selection modes?
If this is done, they should be consistent with the new mode indicator icons. For example, Annotation stands out, because it has a custom cursor that doesn't stylistically match the mode icon.
* @David Jeske * I would agree with this. Using custom cursors for all new modes would be extremely helpful.
