When splitting off a new UI area, automatically open the editor type menu
When you split off a new area, you usually want it to be different than the original one. So why not open the editor selection menu for that new area immediately after mouse release?
It would save time, especially when the header is hidden or so small that the editor selection button is offscreen.

Some people dont wanna switch the type insteat watching their objects from different camera views. E. g. for sculpting. Maybe a configuration if you want that kind of option menu or not could be applicable I guess.
Love this! Maybe not as default but as additional option by clicking additional button? For example extra click on the mouse wheel to open it, since right click is already used for canceling.
While testing the new experimental Interactive Docking feature that just landed, I thought it would be nice to be able to CLICK > DRAG > SCROLL to select the type of editor the new portion would be. So clicking and dragging would have the default behavior, and scrolling would initiate the menu.
One complication is that if you drag from top down instead then the new area is created above. So at the end of the process your mouse is near the header of the existing area, not the new one.
The mouse could be moved but this might be confusing to the user, hard to tell without actually doing it.
