NavigateGizmo to correspond to ViewportDirection
Suggestion of location of viewport name.
Navigation Gizmo is a great widget and quite useful but after using it in Blender 2.80 for some time, I find my eyes going constantly between Viewport name and Navigation Gizmo, producing an eye strain, especially on a larger displays. From the first glance, I am not sure weather I am in the right view by just looking at the Axis orientation (X,Y,Z). I have to check on the far left of the viewport if I snapped to the right view with the ALT key, using the gizmo. I think that gizmo would have greater usage if orientation of Axes was clear if view is aligned to a certain orientation (Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Front, Back). I find those two pieces of information complementary and other than design choice, I can not find explanation why they are far apart.

It should be a box, imo, like Autodesk uses, with customizable direction names (e.g. cardinal directions or xyz), and custom colors (can't find it in the themes?) with top/down, etc written on the sides. MUCH more intuitive and simple for beginners.
It also gives you a lot of clickable areas so you can do things like allow the box edges to be clicked. That way you can have in-between views, not just 6 views.
It's been a while since I used Autocad but I recently started learning/using Fusion 360 and I forgot how useful the box is. I mean, yes I usually have right, left, front, back, and top mapped to hotkeys, but not bottom, and if we could have in between views*, the rest would be too many to have mapped (it's usually something you only use once in a while).
*Currently the only way to get in between views seems to be to use the orbit commands but that puts things in perspective mode automatically. You have to then enable ortho again. Might make my own proposal regarding all this now...
Logical. It would be nice to be able to customize the widget too - like a 3D house from trueSpace.
I agree. I wanted to separate proposals, so they could be clear. Another widget improvement which I would like to post is viewport rotation (not orbit but like a 2D canvas rotation), on the circular edge of the gizmo @ondraise15:
