Mirror Modifier Symmetrize Option
Hello,
I wanted to suggest an extension to the mirror modifier:
When ticking an additional box the mirror modifier will cut off geometry that extends past the mirroring point. It should work like the symmetrize button in the specials menu.
Here's an example showing how it works and also a use case in 3dsmax:

Already in 2.8 branch, was added a few days ago, developer.blender.org/rB19875439b5fb2b7c569bc95f384b5be548a5e45f

My thoughts too. @win3xploder I think if you should have option to edit the post and mark the status of this as "done"?
Yes, yes, yes! Please! :)
It could be even new Symmetrize Modifier.
Yes please add this essential functionality. It's really a huge disadvantage that blender doesnt have this and max does. There is a workaround with booleans but not really straightforward to set up. I did make a script to speed it up with a boolean and mirror but it is not as robust as max and can sometimes break with more complex meshes. The title of the thread is also a bit inaccurate. Really we need a slice option on the mirror modifier. Simply adding an empty for the mirror object would also allow the user to rotate the slice plane, as well as the resulting mirrored geometry. Please add this, this is huge...
YES PLEASE I wanted to request this too ... sooo useful for design process here is another example what can be achieved with this kind of symmetry modifier

Isn't this pretty much what Options-Clipping does in the modifier right now?
@3rton93: clipping options just prevents vertexes to be moved over the mirroring point. Moving mesh toward mirroring axe will discord shape and it is destructive (if you later move it back it wont recover previous shape).
This behaviour could be achieved with bisect modifier (which is not in master) or boolean with cube/plane - but boolean is not perfect and sometimes have unexpected results: i.imgur.com/ssOdVBz.png
@Pawel Piotrowski: ah... yeah true I get it now.
