Cycles and Eevee Blur Node
Self explainatory. It'd allow great blendings, softenings, fake caustics and infinite other effects.

At least simplified or maybe 2d blur node would be very handy and necessary. blender made some basic concepts over complicated.. specially for shaders and materials. there should be simple 2d blur, gradient, warp and noise nodes without the nightmare of vector math for example to have a radial gradient at the center. 3dsmax has a simple and powerful gradient map in which you can create very useful effects for masking and variation with a couple of clicks... no uv vector calculation or complication is needed... {attachment Gradientjpg} Sorry for distracting the topic maybe i should create another post or find some post about procedural textures or shaders in general
How Your 'proposal' is different from others?
@Pawel Piotrowski: I'm sorry having made a sort of repetition. Anyway, technical difficulties or not, as I read, I still think the blur node with some kind of instant conversion from 3d to 2d image or a way to use gradients from black points to white points in space would be fantastic.
@levitosio: Yes. Blur would be very useful. Ppl (and devs) are aware of that. You can only fake it. Blender dont have 2d cached procedural system.
btw Why you just dont use proper software? like Subtance Designer or alternatives?
@Pawel Piotrowski: Yeah, probably Designer and Painter are a must have in the end but isn't this platform a place to request features? I mean: Eevee is a miracle! I can't believe we can't simply blur an image texture somehow in the node editor other than displacing coordinates. And if Blender doesn't have a 2d cached procedural system, well... Then I'm asking for it if it's what's needed! 😅 Politely ask of course. I appreciate Blender as it is for years.
@Pawel Piotrowski: Why not improving the texturing system so you don't have to rely on another software? You could also remove the paint feature from Blender because you have Substance. Or Sculpt because there is Zbrush. Now with EEVEE, I think the texturing system should develop further. Whats the point in having a feature if you don't develop it further and becomes obsolete or not good enough. Yes, this is a good addition and no one is asking to drop everything right now and just work on this proposal but it can be taken into consideration in the future when they feel they have time to improve certain areas of Blender.
This is unfortunately not computationally possible with both engines without super-sophisticated volumetric cashing system. Years of work.
* @Bartek Moniewski * That seems like a backwards approach to things.
I mean, such an imaginary feat of coding would be technically impressive and likely very efficient and fast, but there's such a thing as getting "over-elegant". It would be impressive, efficient, and fast to travel via fusion-powered ion-propulsion-based vehicles, but we don't have those either. In the meantime, there's still plenty of far less cool and efficient ways to travel that get the job done.
Same thing here: Found this thread while bootlegging together a procedural blur based on a 3d convolve matrix. Processes slow as hell but it works. Now that I have something functional, I'm looking for ways to streamline it.
