Scatter Objects Tool

This Tool is similar to my other Proposed Tool Add Objects that it shares a Tool category with (like Scale and Scale Cage) so some functionalities are the same.

This is a Proposal for a new Tool in the Toolbar: Scatter Objects . It's purpose is to quickly scatter assets accros in the Scene. The user can select an already existing Object in the Topbar and can then add Copies or Instances of the selected Object to the scene with clicking. Clicking once creates the object at the configured (options below) Position in the Scene. The user can then perform an initial Action (based on the Options Below) for example Scale the Object with dragging the Mouse. Another Click or Enter confirms the initial Action and the User can add the next Object. Rightclick or ESC cancels the initial Action (just like regular transform operations).

Topbar Items:

Options:

Item Selector:

  • Lets the User pick an Object to use for the Tool. Collections can also be picked.

Type: Determines wether Objects are Copies or Instances of the selected Object.

  • Copy
  • instance

Position: Defines where the Copy will be placed in the Scene

  • At 3D Cursor (could display have an option- Use Cursor Rotation )
  • At Mouse Cursor
  • At Selected Object
  • At World Center
  • Surface (at Mesh Surface under Mouse Cursor) - could have an option - Surface Rotation to rotate the Object according to the Surface Normal)

Initial Action:

  • Translate
  • Rotate
  • Scale
  • [Rename]

Why couldn't you use the particle system for that again?

@a5693821: This is meant to be a way to quickly assemble a scene with preexisting Objects and controll each Objects LocRotScale individually. For example useful for levelbuilding. A Particle System is different - it distributes particles randomly without controll over individual Objects.

I think this request can be extended to developing a dedicated scattering system free from a bunch of unimportant and unobvious settings of current particle system that simply not needed for a scattering purposes. Like this one, for example. corona-renderer.com/blog/corona-scatter-introduction-by-asymmetrica-ltd/
