VSE: Render linked scenes to cache

I love that Blender's VSE has the ability to link in external scenes, and edit them together just like a standard NLE before they are rendered. It's a feature that I have not seen anywhere else and it's fantastic.

What I don't like is that if one of the scenes in a sequence is edited (especially if one scene is made longer or shorter) the entire thing needs to be re-rendered to adjust for the frame differences. It would be nice if you could specify a cache directory, where each scene's rendered output could be cached.

I wonder if you could handle this with VSE Placeholder Images, where you can specify more frames than you actually have as a placeholder until they're rendered...

* @ammusionist * You could, but only if you knew exactly how many frames you were going to need in the future, which when working with a client isn't really realistic.
