Manipulate origin in Edit mode.

We should not have to exit Edit mode simply to transform the origin. How about a button next to the vertex, edge, face selection modes for origin select mode? This would allow you to transform the origin, as well as snap to a surface point or the 3d cursor all within edit mode

* @Haas Weston * I thinks this can considered to be done in 2.81 isn't it?

* @Alvaro Luque * Right now it's possible, only in Object mode, to restrict the transform tools to only affect Origins (using the Options menu in the right corner). Using the 3D Viewport Pie Menus addon, there are origins options in Ctrl+Alt+X such as Set Origin to Selected, which work in edit mode, but are basically doing multiple commands at the same time.

This proposal would be easily solved if we were simply allowed to also restrict the transforms to the object origin also in Edit mode, just as in Object mode. Allow use of Translate and Snap options to the origin in edit mode would be enough.

I'm doing great with Enhanced 3D cursor: rmbclick -drag + Ctrl and you can snap the cursor wherever you want (see addon docs). Then I easily remapped "set origin" shortcuts to suit my pref: Alt+rmb Usual set origin dialog, Ctrl+rmb* directly Origin to 3d cursor. *note I set LMB to select (unfriendly vs this site?)

Although your idea is reasonably straight-forward, it would be nice to include a mock-up of what the interface would look like. Perhaps use lsscpp's recommendation of re-using the location of the Manipulate Center Point button.

If the object origin snap menu was available in edit mode that's all I think I'd ever need. But for positioning the origin at some arbitrary point this suggestion would be needed.

This is, besides a real and quick grouping system in blender, what I miss most from Maya. It definitely makes sense to me if the origin transform option would be in the same menu with edge vertex and face while in edit mode. Or maybe an alternative edit mode, where you just transform the origin of an object.

Here is a great explanation of how After Effects does that:

there is addon currently but it has problems with bezier curves etc

lsscpp

It could be placed where Manipulate Center Point is in Object mode. It makes sense!

For a temporary solution check the rRMB add-on.
