Boolean functions for curves

Hi,

I'd love to see Boolean functions for planar curves, enabling you to subtract one curve from another, add one curve to another, intersect two curves or cut a curve with another one, for easy creation of complex planar curves, which can then be extruded etc. to become meshes.

It would ideally work on both NURBS and Bezier curves, and could work in curve edit mode, selecting two intersecting curves (e.g. using the L key to select isolated curves with connected segments), and activating a Boolean menu with Add, Subtract, Intersect and Cut options. Maybe the Boolean options could be added to the W key (the 'Specials' menu), or assigned to a new Boolean hotkey.

Part of this functionality is available through this add-on .

Thanks,

Metin

Thanks! This only offers a NURBS-like trim and extend function though, no Boolean add, subtract or intersect.

Would this only work on 2D curves? How might it work on 3D curves? Also, are we just talking about the curves themselves, or does the boolean also factor in additional attributes like bevels and extrusions on the curves?

I only ask because supporting just 2D curves that are coplanar is relatively simple (something most vector drawing programs already have). However, supporting more than that would require converting the curves into NURBS or meshes... and that might be easy (or desireable)

I meant simple, planar 2D curve booleans. Other types of geometry can be Booleaned using the mesh Boolean functions. I'll add a sentence to my post to clarify this.

I'd still very much welcome a robust NURBS toolkit in Blender. Have a go at MoI 3D, it's fabulous.
