Button: Move bottom of a selected object precisely on top of the grid

Some might agree: The following task seems pretty common to me:

  • "You move an object to align its bottom on top of the grid."

It is e.g. easier to then add a plane where the object sits on. I see this in lots of tutorials (even of the pros) and I had this task a lot myself.

So here is my request / idea:

What if Blender adds a dedicated button in the left menu between "move" and "rotate" that just takes the selected object, checks for the vertices that are the lowest of the bottom and moves the whole object with one simple click precisely onto the grid, without changing any other properties as the pivot point etc.

I think this could be a huge timesaver, as it is sometimes a bit fiddly, even if you use the keys to snap to the grid, especially when the object has been moved before.

If I missed this function in all this years I do apologize, but - I really MISS this function.

* @ Vyacheslav * Thank you for giving it a name. Did not find that addon. Since this is such a common task I imagine it would be smart to have it "just there", not as an add-on?

* @ Vyacheslav * Yes, I found one for 2.79 too, but not for 2.8. Implementing that button without being a addon would therefore make even more sense for the new build 2.8

Sounds like a better phrased duplicate of This Proposal

* @ammusionist * Not sure if this is a duplicate. To me the linked version sounds more like physics involved. My idea is just calculate the distance between the lowest Z-coordinate of the selected object and the grid, then add that to the actual Z-value to shift it up (or down) by that amount to have it perfectly sit on the grid.
