Personal annoyance with transparency option

Hi everyone,

I'm writing this thread to talk about the "show whole scene transparent" option: I bet we all agree on the fact that it's fairly similar to the "limit selection to visible" that we had in 2.79's Edit mode (with a big upgrade of course).

The thing is that I only use that when I'm in Edit mode and I prefer having it turned off when I'm in object mode. Yet, the way it works now is that toggling Edit/Object mode does not change the state of the "show whole scene transparent" and vice versa.

I would like to know how I could bind the toggle of that visibility option to "tab".

Explanation --> I don't like that I have to do "Alt"+"Z" in addition to "tab" each time I switch between Edit & Object modes. I would like to be able to do both just by tapping "tab".

Is it possible to keep the action that "tab" does (toggle Edit/Object)... And add to that the toggle of the "limit selection to visible"?

I am totally aware that this might only be convenient for me. I'm not asking for it to be implemented by default or so. I just want to know how I can do it locally (maybe some Python lines could help?).

Thanks for reading,

Yves

This question would be better asked in blender stackexchange than on the rightclick select.

Anyway, you may not want to do Editmode and X-ray actions together all the time.. I think the fastest way would be a pie menu on tab. However, this will cost you time in modeling and it's not really a "Mode" switch

Actually there is a pie for shading by pressing Z. The option Toggle X-ray was in there but was changed recently. You just have to change it back by pressing 1 checkbox.

Go to your Settings/User prefs and then to Inputs tab. Check the Enable extra shading pie menu items and the shading pie will have the Toggle X-ray again.

@rodgerdaledavis: Thx a lot for your reply. (I'll copy/paste on blender stackexchange this is my first post here, I did not know it wouldn't be relevent).

I'm aware of that pie menu and of the checkbox option in the user prefs. And you are right on the fact that I will not ALWAYS want to switch both. But most of the time I will. And I would still be able to "Alt"+"Z" to only switch x-ray in those cases.

However, the core of my problem is that basically: I currently have 2 steps to switch modes and x-ray... But I want to do it in only one step (because I switch a lot). And currently, your option still gives me two steps to achieve this.

Thx again for your reply. :)
