Add support for animation actions in asset browser

Currently you can mark an object's animation data block as asset in outliner, but not link/append it back from the asset browser. Adding support for such feature would make reusing of animations much more convenient and thus improve animators' workflow. For example, It would make it possible to build animation library for motion designers to quickly add commonly used animations for objects or camera. It could also further expand the functionality of pose assets.

At this point in time we can assign actions using the asset browser, but only if those actions are from the current file. It's a shame that assigning external actions isn't implemented. I'm curious what the technical limitation is there.

No need for this feature request. It's already on the radar. Check code.blender.org/2021/05/pose-library-v2-0/

Hi, Sybren. Thanks for the reply. In my opinion, this post didn't make it clear for me that object actions will also be supported (and when), I see it more concentrated on the pose library. Personally I am aware that it's in the plans due to the asset browser workboard on developer.blender.org but when I asked Pablo Vazquez on the weekly blender.today stream he said (hope I recall it right and am not trying to blame him or anyone for anything) that there is no new information on it's development. So I guess with this proposal I tried to softly bring more attention to this feature 😅

I understand the desire :)

Pablo is fully correct that there is indeed no new information on its development. Many ideas, only few developers. There are plenty of people who would love to see animation snippet support in the asset browser/pose library. Best way of keeping tabs with the current Animation & Rigging development is the meeting notes: devtalk.blender.org/c/animation-rigging/21
