Edit mode self collision.(no simulation)

While I'm modelling, sometimes faces intersect each other. I try what I can to avoid it, but when space is very tight, it's hard to avoid.

It would be cool if there was a way to tell edges not to intersect faces. I've searched for such a function for hour and days. And it appears that it doesn't exist. From what I'm told, simulation is required. But that doesn't make sense to me. Because Blender already knows the faces are there. Why not just say "no" when an edge tries to occupy the space of a face? Or in other words, just make the movement stop. It doesn't need to be fancy. Just stop the action before intersection occurs.

Typically, you're only moving between 1 and a few dozen vertices at any given time. So it should be a light weight function to my thinking. You could even make it so that the only parts affected by collision are controlled by the proportional edit.

If you know an intersection is going to happen and just want the vertex in question to touch the opposite face, you could use snapping – but yes, it would be nice to just have a mode you could turn on that would make it constantly check for self-intersection and stop transformations when they reach that point. You might want to re-title this to "edit mode setting to avoid self-intersection" or something so that people don't think you're trying to do actual collision dynamics.
