Add the viewport render info to the status bar

statusbar.jpg When turning off viewport overlays you won't have any info about the render status, as in what sample it's on, if the meshes might be still updating or even if the render have crashed. So the only way to get this is enable that Overlay, but doing so can make the rendered viewport very cluttered, or if you're in an very heavy scene this might even crash your render sometimes which kinda defets the purpose of enabling that overlay in the first place.

So just put the render status in the status bar as well with the rest of the overlay info that's already down there :)

(And as a small bonus request on the same topic I would also like to have the scene name down there for when you are running your Blender in fullscreen)

Lauloque

you can just enable only texts in the overlays.

You mean as in every time I want to only see the render stats I should go in to the overlay options and disable everything except text, and then enable all the stuff again when I want to see the stuff in the viewport? That in itself is not a good way of doing it at all, and also this still shows and calcutates stuff in the viewport and will still slow down or even crash the rendering of heavy scenes.

Don't know if it's you or anyone else that have downvoted this idea, but I don't see any downside whatsoever to have an option in the preferences to show the render stats in the viewport, just as you have options for showing and hiding the other stuff in the status bar :) This really is a no brainer for me!

Not sure showing up a text overlay on the viewport have a significant impact on performances compared to showing it up in another place.

As for the annoyance of handling overlays, yes that is true. But that is also a solvable problem ;)

Like having presets , or one click bulk actions .

I didn't downvote (i rarely ever do), but I like to discuss proposals to push them further, or make sure alternatives don't already exist, or other solutions could work better / profit more people. Your proposal is an excellent argument for the above proposals, for example.

I tested it, if I disable everything except text for the overlay it will still show objects which will have an impact on performance. And even if it wouldn't have an impact I would still prefer having an option to have the render status down in the status bar as well, I mean we already have other scene statistics etc down there, so why not the render stuff as well?

Good to hear you weren't the downvoter :) Though I would really prefer that when people are downvoting they should really have an argument for it, so now I'm really curious why someone thinks this is a bad idea because I really don't see why it would be.
