The wise organizer_Global subdivision level

Hi everyone, I was thinking that it would be amazing to have an option to define the suddivision level of a object's collection. Something like having a fifth icon in the outliner that allows you overwrite or globally manage this parameter for all objects contained on that collection.

The addition of this feature would help mostly to optimize and organize big files, above all those where you have a few cameras and depending on which one are you using to launch the render you could set a higher subdivision level for objects that are closer to it and viceversa.

Thanks in advance¡

you can also change the collections an object belongs to from Properties -> Object -> Collections.

As far I know, in blender 2.80 there is no way that an object can belong to two different collections. You can array one collection inside another which establishes a hierarchy in the outliner where you can set that subdivision level.

For example, you have 2 collections that at the same time are inside another one. You could set the subd level differently for those, and at any given time, overwrites them setting the upper collection subd level.

The principle is simple, collection subd level overwrites objects, and collection subd level is overwritten for the collection subd level that contains the previous collection.

I know that the answer is not the most clear one ever, but I hope it can explained. Greetings¡

* @maxholism * This is incorrect. You can absolutely have an object in multiple collections. Currently, this has to be done from the Outliner. Click+drag an object and then hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> as you drop it into another collection. The object is now in both.

* @Jason van Gumster * Very nice trick with the Outliner. I will use it from now on, thanks.

I made this suggestion based on the wrong fact that one object couldn´t belong to two collections in 2.80. So, we are still at starting point. As you said, what if the object is shared by two collections with different Subd levels?

Well, I don't have a clean and elegant solution for that, of course you could impose conditions such as the collection with the higher Subd level is the one that it is represented and etc. But then to implement this feature would be a non sense due to fuzzy criterias taken to arrange the priorities.

I will keep thinking on it and also I invite people to let them being heard on this topic.

Greetings¡

What if the object is in multiple collections and those collections have different subdivision levels set?
