Blender Hub

This might be a nightmare to develop and maintain, but I propose we make a hub application for Blender. A place where we can quickly access different Blender services (cloud, blender.community , etc.), quickly launch Blender, and quickly download different Blender versions. Something like Unity hub, but for Blender. ___ P.S. I know it's not directly to do with Blender itself, but I don't know where else to write this ;-;

Sounds like a thing a community developer should pick up, since the priorities of the Blender developers are far away from something like this. Still, there is a demand for this, so i can see a lot of people appreciating a project like this.

Someone could make a blenderhub.com website that does most of this. Someone else can put that inside of a chromium based web app on the desktop. Someone else can make a tutorial showing how to do both of those things and sell it on Udemy for good money.

You can already quickly access Blender Cloud, Blender.community , quickly launch Blender (one of the fastest launching 3D programs), and quickly download different Blender versions. Having everything in one place could make things marginally quicker, but I'm not really a fan of the idea. I get so annoyed with Unity's Hub to launch the application and the way it manages your projects, rather than using folders.

I'd be okay with the idea if it didn't include an application launcher, recent projects, etc.

Here's my version of your proposal: Blender Hub is a separate application from Blender and its features include:

  1. 3D model database where you can upload & download models, like BlendSwap or something.
  2. Buttons to download the latest version of Blender or the experimental version.
  3. Add-on downloads
  4. Blender Chat (Blender community sounds like the same thing)
  5. Blender Gallery

I just really don't want Blender Hub to be the only way to open Blender. I want Blender & Blender Hub to be totally separate programs.

Btw, I'm content with just using online websites for all these functions, but this idea has potential to become something really cool if things are done right.

I don't think having some stuff from online loaded in the software is a good thing. Let web browsers that made for this exact purpose deal with community content.

I have created something to help users manage multiple blender versions, Take a look. porush.gumroad.com/l/blend-hub
