UV Editor - Active Element Snap Improvement
The problem
In the UV Editor, snapping by active element is currently unusable and potentially bugged. Also, Blender only keeps track of the active face. This behavior is different from how active elements are handled in the 3D Viewport. Finally, Blender only allows for snapping to an increment or to a UV Vertex. Having other options to snap to would be nice.
Snap Active - Sync Selection Off (Completely useless)
Snap Active - Sync Selection In Face Selection Mode (Better, but not great)
The solution
The ideal fix involves enabling the active element to take the form of the element type that corresponds to the selection mode.
When 'sync selection' is off the element types are:
- UV Vertices (Face Corners)
- UV Edges
- Faces
- UV Islands
When 'sync selection' is on the element types are:
- Vertices
- Edges
- Faces
Since sync selection would allow multiple separate UV vertices/ UV Edges to be active when using vertex select or edge select mode, the closest active element should be used for snapping.
Additionally, the following options for 'snap to' could be added.
Snap to:
- UV Edge
- UV Edge Center
- UV Edge Perpendicular

It is supposed to use closest snapping
