3d Cursor orientation improvement

Currently, when you place the 3dCursor with the Geometry option, its orientation is matched with the normal, but the view is still used for the tangent (the cursor's rotation on the axis that was matched to the normal).

I propose that in Geometry mode, the cursor's orientation should be matched with a polygon's smallest bounding box.

In addition, a Tangent orientation mode should be added that will match the orientation to both the normal and the tangent vector based on the active UV map.

Also, the Snap operator ought to have a redo option to snap the cursor orientation to any of the orientation modes.

just for info if you select a face(or face or several vertices) and then do shift+7 and do new object align to view things would be more easy. and then snap to the surface. but the second part can be automatized through programming. I'm studying all this to do more intuitive tools.

* @zgorg2004 * yep, now I do it this way.

Now Shift+rclick cursor do not orient to geometry at all. Cursor tool orient only Z. Even with snapping… So yes, it should be improved:

  1. check face-normal and axes
  2. inherit settings for Shift-Rclick from tool

* @ Vyacheslav * in fact yes choosing normal and geometry but trough the tool. and if you do a rotation and a ctrl A rotation, you need then to be to normal transform...but in fact transform works too in the first situation. far to be easy. and snaping to the middle A then ctrl but if you are already moving an object. it becomes tricky...

if request is still relevant... look at keKIT "Cursor Fit & Aligne" artbykjell.com/blender.html
