"Erase Sculpting" Brush to return to original geometry (multi-res)

I think this would be a simple tool to implement into the current sculpting tools. A brush that returns geometry back to its original position before sculpting, with options for absolute location (returning it completely to it's position of origin) and also relative (returning a vertex to it's original position relative to the vertices around it.)

I believe this would only work in conjunction with the multires modifier, or when returning to the original state of the current sculpting session if sculpting on the original vertices, as the original position of vertices before other sculpting sessions is not saved.

There are a lot of times that I find myself looking at a part of the model and wanting to start sculpting again on that part from scratch, ie, my base model. The only thing you can do is to smooth and remodel yourself back to the original state and then start sculpting again. With this tool, as the multires is just a modifier and the original model data is saved, you would simply use this brush stroke to remove the transformations of the multires modifier, essentially negating its affect in the area in which you apply the brush.

Another primary use I would find useful is when I change the geometry at the base level, especially adding or subtracting vertices, I get jagged vertices that poke out of the mesh in multires sculpting mode. A return to edit mode shows no such poking vertices, however in the multires data somewhere it has translated it. I then have to track down that vertex and slowly smooth it back into place, often smoothing out details around it. My hope would be that this brush could get that vertex back to its spot more quickly and efficiently.

Those are my general thoughts. Feel free to give any input on this subject.

yes this would be really useful!

I'd call this an "undo brush". Sounds REALLY useful.

Very happy to say that this feature has been added to 2.91! I've used it and it works great! Fantastic for starting over on some sculpting that really messed things up.

I accidently created a new topic for this, (I fogot that I had requested it a year ago) but still a much needed feature. Everywhere I mention it, it is met with the same response: "That would be super useful," and "That should be easy enough."

It makes me want to start learning the process for programming something like this, but at this point in my life, I just don't have the time to add a 4th "full time" job, which an artist learning program would be.
