Export as .blend

This is a useful feature that should already be built-in, rather than relying on add-ons. While there are ways to achieve it, the ability to export any object as a .blend file seems like something that should have been implemented by now.

I saw there was a similar post about 4 years ago but it seems like it is forgotten about

I'm not too sure why you want that since we now have the ability to tag objects as assets and browse them in the open file from the library file and drag and drop them in. That said, I read the thread on BA about the different versions they scripted there, and each person had a different take on what they needed it to do. blenderartists.org/t/save-each-object-to-separate-blend-file/1300320

I understand the request; I avoid using assets due to various issues with them.

Beyond that, there's certainly situations that one simple wants to save a few (or one) object from a scene that has 100 other objects in it. I don't want nor need an asset, I just want to save that one thing as a new file. Perhaps I'm trying to share that object with someone else, and I don't want to send them a huge file with one object marked as an asset...

Having said that, there's a simple addon (or more) already available to will "Save As" with any selection.

So, I don't see the need for main to cover this base - it's already covered.
