Reset Value Button

Would be nice to implement such reset buttons on API level and enable it in interface where it could be handy (next to transforms sliders for instance). So instead on typing 0 value + pressing Enter each time to reset it or RMB click and use Reset option from menu we could just reset values same as we do with locks fast and smooth with one move. For addon creators it would be also a grate option. Right now I working on addon and to add such functionality I have to code special button + add special operator which will rewrite property. If such option would be implemented on API level I could just set some Reset = True parameter to appear this reset button next to property in UI.

So instead on typing 0 value + pressing Enter

Mouse over, press backspace. That resets not only values, but nodes to default for example.

As far as I know, pressing backspace is good when you have float value, but pressing backspace on vectors like transform, resets all three values, and sometimes you want to reset only one.

That case when I didn't know about this feature after 3+ years using Blender.... because it not described nowhere ))) like one when u can press Ctrl+C while mouse over to copy value. No doubt 99% of users don't know about it as well, UI button much obvious in this case.

Still 2 issues with this feature - it really reset all values in vector, it still need to move hand from left hand "WSAD" comfort zone to "Enter" zone to press Backspace. I like when feature not force me to move hand right-left all the time.

I kinda agree and disagree with you at the same time. Not knowing about a feature is a double-edged problem.

  1. Not in documentation? Well, devs should add it there! Or maybe you could if you know.
  2. Not in tutorials? Bad tutorials I guess, the ones I watched talked about it.

About proposal, I'm not sure we need to clutter the ui more, for such a simple thing. Especially while we still don't have a proper ui/ux team. Maybe add "press backspace to revert to default" to the tooltip would be better? Don't know really. I wouldn't want to accidentally key/lock a setting I wanted to clear and vice versa.

I was not waiting that all people would be 100% happy about it. I just work on my addon and while implementing reset buttons thought that it may be useful feature on API level.

Actually nowadays I find RCS pretty useless place to propose anything, almost " 0 " impact on Blender development... But as far as it not proposed here before - so I just leave it here.

Again, I propose it "in general" as option for property in UI, not just those transforms with lock buttons next to them. Last argument - it may be really handy for tablet users.

There are tutorials (creative shrimp, blender guru, blender daily, others) that spend like 2 hours just going into these details of the Blender user interface. I think last year I saw a video titled something like "126 thing I never knew about blender" and at least 50 were things like ctrl+c and backspace and ctrl+clicking color flags in the color ramp node.

Also, I am against of adding reset buttons, but something like Shift+Backspace for one part of vector will be nice. Now I need to click, then press Backspace, then Enter

Jut noticed "Box locztion" in my addon )) bahaha. I just leave it as is here.

As offset is all positions different than 0, you can: bpy.context.active_object.location[0] != 0: row.operator("resetXaxis")

I was working on similar addon, just that the icon is the Constrait not reset, but could be changed. I don´t have it anywhere due it's a part of a bigger addon that I'm still working on, but I don´t mind to share this part that is already done.

Also I merged it in one panel with the 3D cursor, cause to much pain to me pin both and work on different panels. Each part has a pop-up so you don´t have to look at this big panel if something is not needed.
