Outliner list select with Shift and CTRL as in an OS

EDIT : I did not find this before writing this post, but I hope my title may bring more attention to forestgumpovu4 well writen proposition.

I have been working on maya for over 8 years ( mainly as a lookdev and lighting artist ), I started on 3DS max back in 2008, and I use blender in 2005 as a hobbyist. Blender as come a long way since then and I really want to move all my skills to it.

So far I was able to adapt to a lot of things, even the right click select ;), but the outliner selection shortcuts are just crazy.

In every OS / Software / even Smartphones, there is a way, in a lists UI like a file explorer or in our case a outliner, to highlight one entity, scroll to another, select it, and get all the entity in between them selected.

In windows, mac, linux, 3Ds max, Maya etc. Shift+LMB and CTRL+LMB shortcuts work the same way, so I believe you all know how they behave.

In blender, the only way I found to select multiple object in the outliner is Shift + LMB = Highlight object one by one ( everyone working with computer is expecting CTRL to do that ) B = Make a bounding box selection that is limited to how many object your outliner shows in the UI

Since I am used to have at least hundreds, if not thousands of objects in my outliner in Maya, blender outliner is not working for me.

My understanding is that blender artist does not use the outliner a lot, and, in my opinion, it is a big flaw for organising large scene and collaborative work. I believe, having proper selection shortcuts will help make blender even better than it is now for studios that currently use maya.

Unfortunally I currently don't have the knowledge to tackle this myself. I am not sure if I need to right something in Python or dive in blender sourcecode, so I am hopping someone with the skill will be kind enough to help me.

I hope I am making myself understood, i am not english native ;).

EDIT : Replaced Maj with Shift ( french to english word for the key )

One of those things nobody knows why it hasn't been implemented yet. I think there are other proposals for the exact same thing. It's the very first time I hear of Maj instead of Shift. I even had to look it up on Google.

@luisburdallo: Sorry about that, Maj is the french word for shift. I don't know why I did that, and when I speak french I sometime say Shift. My brain is just fucked up xD
