Modifiers for lamp

having few modifiers for lamp should be a nice idea.. atleast the array modifier mirror etc ... its crucial though not often used but will be very helpful

for example i need to make an array of point light following a curve.. currently i'll have to manually set each lamp.

Since you already have a curve, can't you already do this using Dupliframes?

What if one wants a grid, and then displace it to have lights at different heights? Then mirror this and then array it again? Ok this guy is probably crazy, but anyway, since a few non-mesh modifiers exist, why can't we apply them to non-mesh objects?

My understanding of the modifier code (rudimentary though it is) is that modifiers generate derivative meshes. Always. If the initial object can't be easily converted into a mesh, then from a code perspective, there's no clean path to using that object in the modifier stack.

That said , there is a pretty simply workaround, I think. You can use a 1-vertex mesh with the array modifier and then use dupliverts to position a lamp at every vertex in the derivative array.

Ok subject closed for me, for good reasons: the workaround makes sense and it's not that hard to put in practice

Definitely!
