Vertex-, Edge-, Face-Select shortcuts
In edit mode Vertex-, Edge-, Face-Select shortcuts are 1, 2 and 3 respectively. If you have switched to object mode and instinctively press 1, 2 or 3 you inadvertently hide collections which in a complex scene can be extremely confusing. Would it make sense to change the hide collection shortcuts to Alt 1, Alt 2 etc. These shortcut keys are currently unallocated.

you can reassign 1 to enter Edit Mode and go into Vertex-select at once:
