Mantaflow baking with sparse volumes on the GPU

"Two minute Papers" has made a great video about a new algorithm, that has the capability to speed up liquid simulations by up to 27 times! They finally developed an algorithm that runs on Gpus and is able to work without a fixed bounding box. These improvements alone, were able to reduce baking times by an order of magnitude. Link: researchgate.net/publication/325488464_Fast_Fluid_Simulations_with_Sparse_Volumes_on_the_GPU I hope that it has the capability to be compatible with flip fluids and Mantaflow in general. If so, this could be an absolute game changer.

In fact, there is an addon in development, that is already capable of water simulation without bounding box. It uses a different method though. Mantaflow uses FLIP, and this addon uses MLS-MPM. MLS-MPM is by nature slower than FLIP, but with the help of the taichi programming language, it has been sped up many fold.

This addon is called taichi elements, it is currently in development. At the moment, it can only bake out particles. For now there is no way to bake meshes of it, but I am sure there will be.

Another feature of this addon is to have different types of materials reacting with each other when simulating, thanks to the nature of MLS-MPM. For example, to have elastic object (bouncy rigid body? Kind of like rubber) being pushed away by water. The addon provides several materials, they are: sand, snow, elastic, water. There is currently no parameters to tweak for the materials, but again, I believe there will be.

* @EaryChow * Whoa, that seems to be a good candidate for native integration into blender
