Tag field for proposals - avoid wasted time making duplicate proposals

Duplicate proposals happen mostly because the search is not very smart. Beside RCS curation, user time invested in proposals is equally important.

Maybe a tag field where you can add synonyms and related terms can be taken in consideration to help sorting the results.

Example from one of the latest proposals: #eyedropper #color picker #sampling colors #color select #capture colors

Would also be nice if people deleted their duplicates once they find out they are duplicates.

Maybe it's more sense to group some posts as duplicated to "goruped posts" around some similar ideas. Then we have post lists and:

  1. Tags

  2. Title

  3. Like, Comments, data, Status, Grouped

  • click Grouped can open tree with this type posts
  • posts can be grouped with ID by admin, or other users

Not sure that is not so advanced and to big expectation around RCS system.

  • Duplicate proposals happen mostly because the search is not very smart. People too... Somwhere in comments I already have said that proposal creation page should have big sign "CHECK SEARCH BEFORE WRITING!!!" as the background. Check here Pablo comment why current search is such "simple".
  • Would also be nice if people deleted their duplicates once they find - not the best solution, because sometimes this is not "mirror" duplicate, but extension. Better solution to merge somehow such duplicates ( check this )

In both cases best/cheapest solution is manual volunteer moderation. Same as tags - moderators can check proposals and set custom detailed tags for search.

* @IIIFGIII * It's not only the curatorial value for RCS but also can help users not waste a lot of time making mockups, videos and writing nice proposals only to be told that they are repeating an idea.

* @IIIFGIII * merging would be best handled by the author of the older or better proposal taking the best parts of the other proposal and adding it to the main proposal in the most sensible way.

* @thinsoldier * Again - author of old one may be no more active user or any else 100 500 reasons why this will not work or work bad. Just some human moderation will be the best solution.

Some structure of volunteers with limited admin rights subordinated to official administrators. Good garden needs careful gardeners, otherwise it just jungles.

Maybe grouped posts can be done in this way:

  1. In the grouped posts (related) under tile of list or under "Bulp" can be arrow down with number of related posts. After expan the arrow down, then can be listed posts as indent.
  2. Then job around grooming request by Product Owner can be more easy.
  3. I see that cooperation with dev on devtalk is hard ; )
