Node Compatibility Memory Across Versions"

I downgraded to an earlier Blender version (4.2) to use an add-on not yet supported in 4.3. However, unsupported nodes like the 'For Each Loop' in 4.3 are completely undefined when switching back. I expected Blender to remember and restore these nodes properly when returning to a supported version, but it doesn’t. Skjermbilde 2025-01-22 101331.png

This is quite hard as Blender cannot rely on the blender version the file was saved in. It is hard to validate that all possible configurations are working. So technically possible, but not sure it would improve the reliability of Blender.

It is better to know that switching back to previous versions has those limitations and manually fix them. There are a lot of cases that should be handled, that isn't clear and will reduce the reliability.

Blender saves nodes as raw data in files, these can be complex structures. Without knowing the exact layout of that data it is hard to identify what and how data needs to be stored and loaded or requires special loading logic/saving. For example nodes that point to an object might now not point to that object anymore as the object is located on a different place.
