Asset Browser: thumbnail preview human for scale or simple ruler

An optional toggle for human for scale when you are working with the asset browser. the human would be a simplified silhouette and only an overlay.

alternatively a 2 meters ruler or even numbers to tell the overall height of the asset as a thumbnail

It could only appear when you mouse hover over the asset thumbnail...

then you would be able to evaluate or estimate tree/rock size assets from just a glance of the thumbnail. Sure it is not the most important feature of an asset browser but it might be fun to have.

In the above rough mockup the human is on the left, ruler version on the right. One might make more sense.

edit- longest dimension as a number in the top-right corner may be the best method.

I imagine whenever the thumbnail gets made the height of the object could also gets stored with it but I am not a blender developer I dont know how feasible this is.

i think it's a cool idea- but given the diversity of the work Blender users create (not just archviz or human-scale stuff) we need something more generic (like the numbers you mentioned). for example- perhaps a simple overlay text in the top-right corner that shows a rounded version of the longest dimension. so a door would show "1.5 m", and the model of Neptune right next to it in the asset browser would show "4.5B km", and the tardigrade right next to that would show "0.5 mm" .. something along those lines.

I like the idea of knowing something's general size by looking at its icon in the asset browser, but using a human silhouette is too narrow.

That sounds better -longest dimension as a number in the top-right corner. People make all sorts of things and It would make doing the overlay easier to achieve .

At this stage it would be really handy to rescale your pillows just be 62cm wide

Why not instead of the longest, simply the bounding box measurement. So we could have 62x62x15cm for exemple. Or maybe it could be configurable in the preferences as well

bounding box would also be good option. i like it but would take up more room...the devs might want other info like vert amounts/object data if overlays on thumbnails get introduced, Yes this wouldnt be something on by default it would be a preference or a tickbox /overlay settings feature.

This would be super useful! I agree with doing something more generic like the longest dimension.

Maybe as a tooltip activated by middle mouse clicking like in houdini?
