You should try Blender-Launcher, or installation using Steam or the Windows Store
This can be probably addon maybe, due portable version, etc.
Going to the blender website and looking at the current version number is too much pain?
Let we turn off the rss,xml and atom : )
The thing is, in order to make it work, Blender would need to check online for any new update. And the Blender's philosophy is, and always has been, to not rely on internet connexion in order to work properly (things might change a little at some point with the asset browser and the possible binding with the Blender Studio library content though).

The update checker needs to be:
With the extensions platform website it becomes a bit more tricky though. If you activate online extensions, Blender has to check every time it opens if any of the installed extensions has been flagged as suspicious/malicious and disable it. That would really awesome as I don't really like to rely on launchers to get the latest version!
Many addons checking new version, why blender can't do this.. There can be option to turn off.. by addon simple to control belt with info.
Anyway.. be uptodate can also impacting on bugtracker as reduction for old bugs.
