Auto-crossfade overlapping strips

In some video editors like Vegas and DAWs like Reaper, a very convenient feature is to simply move two events together so that they overlap and the editor instantly creates a crossfade, which is the most popular type of transition other than a cut.

Currently, Blender doesn't seem to allow for the overlapping of strips. This ability would make for a very welcome time-saver!
