Fake User?
Fake user is a pretty weird thing to see in Blender, I'm not sure it has a clear meaning and it certainly looks hacky.
All I know about it is that if you add some grease pencil brushes as an appendment (another odd terminology) , the brushes do not disappear when next opening.
Will both these oddities disappear with the asset manager? If not, then that is my suggestion. :)

Voting down, why? Please explain the negativity? Why is fake user not confusing and weird, why keep it? Why is Append not weird and confusing... does 'add' not work better by being clearer and more colloquial ?
It has been discussed here and there already, like this post: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/j4gbbc/
Some changes were made; but the core issue remained: Blender deletes data without users. It's not a nice feature, it's just an uneasy mess to understand, it forces the user to keep thinking about something that isn't needed otherwise.
IMHO, the entire system should be removed and kept as simple as “Blender should delete stuff only when asked by the user”. Making automated hidden deletion doesn't help anybody. The argument “it is to avoid big scenes without reason” does not stand against losing data without reason.
But sometimes it's hard to make a point go through, even when it's somewhat damaging "urgently".
As for the naming of appends, it's quite a minor issue IMHO. They did try to get Blender back to more standard names, like we can see here developer.blender.org/T56648
But again, it didn't go all the way through.
Aahh I see, that's a big topic. I'm not surprised that a couple went in the too hard basket, there were some sensible suggestions in there and also some insane ones. Glad to see how so many were sensibly resolved. Append and ' fake user' are still glaringly strange. If it is too hard to fix the issue then fake user would be better as errrrmm....Keep new items or something. Fake user....it's so bizarre. I still don't understand lol
