Improve how whole numbers and decimal values are displayed in Node Inputs.
[Edit: after discussion and inspection, I think easiest way to solve this would be to just show same value when it's edited or not. When you edit 1.000, you see 1.0. And 1.000 > 1.0001. So, when values are edited, they are shown as they should (imo). Just use same rules to values when they are not edited]
When a node input field has values that are "small" decimal values, smallest decimals are hidden when they are not edited.
This causes "hidden" values that make node graphs difficult to read and hinder debugging. I have run cases where the user had, for example, 2.00001 in a Math Power node. This took quite a while to debug.
I suggest that whole numbers be drawn without decimals. Instead of 1.000, we would see just 1. This would make it visible that we don't have any "ghost" decimals without the need for editing the value.
I don't see any reason to cap the decimals to 3. We can see at least 12 digits and 3 decimals when numbers are large. So, why cut decimals to 3 ?
I think this all could be achieved by this logic:
- never show trailing zeros: 1.000 would be 1, 1.020 would be 1.02
- First show as many digits as there are
- Then show as many significant decimals as there is space for.

Completely agree with this!!!
Absolutely agree! This is 100% needed and has been needed for FAR too long!
A THOUSAND % YES!
I would love that.
Although, despite all these rules, there will always be a situation where the GUI does not have enough room to show the whole number. IMHO there should be a visual cue indicating the whole number is visually truncated. May that be a
≈or a….what about a setting in general settings that automatically stretches the nodegroup to display all available decimals :)
or a toggle on the node to switch between default/user set width and the width to show all available decimals. or a general setting to have that toggle on the node.
That toggle could also work in the header of the node workspace to dynamically set all nodes to wide and show all and back to normal width.
This doesn't solve the issue. There is space for more decimals in the nodes with the current default width. Making the node wider doesn't draw any more decimals.
This is a separate topic. Dynamic node width might be a nice feature. But only if it's optional.
