Feature Request: brush stroke follow surface normals

Currently it is only possible to paint in screen space. That means the brush is projected onto the mesh from the point of view.

It would be awesome if the brush stroke could stick to the mesh surface and be in local space. With local space I mean that the brush size should not change when zooming in and out from the model.

The meshmachine addon has this functionality but for the grease pencil (at 5:05): youtube.com/watch

I'm looking for exactly this brush behaviour for Blender texture painting.

Maybe I should mention my intended usage: I want to paint hard surface panel lines with a 45 degree on/off toggle (like the knife tool has). This would be super easy if the brush would stick to the surface.

What youre asking is already planned by Pablo Dobarro, he is the "owner" of the "Sculpt, Paint & Texture" project ( developer.blender.org/tag/sculpt_paint_texture/ )

* @Shimoon * Thats wonderful news. I'm aware of the project but reading through the topics I couldn't find anything that deals with the requested feature. Srry if this request was redundant/unnecessary.

It's been a year and we're in 3.0 yet there is no trace of this functionality. Any news about it?

Oh yes! This one is important. I'm battling this all the time since I use grease pencil for details on things and whatnot.

* @andreasng * If you need that for the grease pencil, then you can buy the Meshmachine addon mentioned above, it's only 40 bucks.

I need that functionality for the texture painting mode because I want to export the panel lines to use them in PS.

* @msgdi * oh thanks for the heads up! I'm not super happy about buying add ons for features that should be an out of the box standard feature. But thank you, I'll check it out. We are trying to make blender better... Refraining from suggesting feature enhancements just because there is a paid add on will not make blender better. :)

* @andreasng * sure, I just wanted to point out that there is a solution for the grease pencil available right now. If there is an addon for texture paint mode I would instabuy it.

Buying an addon is surely not optimal but if it takes god knows how long (sometimes years) until that feature makes it to Blender - I'll take the addon in the meantime.

If I'm not mistaken the paint on surface feature is already implemented for the sculpt mode, so I'm hoping It's coming to texture paint soon, too.
