Alembic import: append to existing
Hello again,
It would be great if when you import an alembic file, you could have the option to append the alembic caches to existing geometry in a blender scene. It's a pretty common workflow to import animated alembic files into a software package to attach it to shaded geometry. Basically using alembic files as point caching. Currently you have to attach a transform cache to a mesh and link it manually to an alembic file, it becomes pretty impossible to work efficiently if you have to do this manually when you have a complex character made up of hundreds of pieces. If the alembic import had a simple checkbox that would perform a check in your blender scene and append alembic caches automatically to existing geometry based on naming for example, it would open up a lot of possibilities. You could do your animation anywhere and then use blender as a shading and rendering tool.
Does something like this exist?
Cheers.
Matt

No news on this?
That should be a priority.
not only animation, but also for simulation
