[Proposal] Unreal-like 3D multi track sequencer

With EEVEE, Blender has crated an amazing realtime viewport that combines the features of a DCC and a game engine. This enables a lot of filmmakers to use the software more efficiently. The one thing that would really benefit the workflow from a filmmakers perspective is a sequencer like the Unreal Engine has:

docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Sequencer/Overview/index.html

To me, this is the missing link that would really open up a whole range of possibilies for a wide range of filmmaking and vfx applications for indiviual/indie filmmakers as well as VFX facilities and post production in general.

  • Storyboarding in 3D/Grease Pencil

(Would make it so easy and fast to do initial blockings of scenes and cameras and see a edit straight away)

  • For Layout Departments (connecting shotgun/camera shot data from the pipeline to load in sequences of shots to figure out layouts for multiple shots)
  • Environment Department (Adjusting Haze, blocking out Shapes)
  • Lighting Department (Continuity)
  • Animation Department (Continuity)

There are a multitude of other use cases.

Like in the UE4 counterpart, this tool would have to store relevant variables and animations on a per shot base. To get it going quickly there could be a priority list of attributes that would be included first:

  • Camera Data and Animation
  • Haze
  • Background/ Environment Texture

To integrate this into the existing build and not break compability, Blender could be set up to always treat any existing or new scene as the "first" shot of a sequencer list and only adds diferent states once a new shot is added to the sequence.

That's exactly what i want

Why is this not part of Blender already? I'm sick of creating & timing NLA strips to match the flow of animation rather than creating independent sequences
