Better Bevel modifier with selection context
Tweaking modifier settings is a bit of a chore as it takes your eyes from the thing you want shape in the viewport and into the Modifier panel on the right, becoming more spreadhseet entry than mesh shaping. Popular addons like HardOps, Fluent and Speedflow try to streamline workflow, helping to keep your eyes and mouse on the object in the viewport and allow setting defaults for modifiers when they are created as well as using modifier keys and keymap modals and mouse movement to quickly select modifier settings and make adjustments.
If using vanilla Blender modifier creation, can we at least endow modifiers with a fraction of intelligence and allow it to check what the current selection mode is (Object, Edit -> Vertex / Edge mode) when it is instantiated and set appropriate modifier settings. As an example, if I'm in Edit -> Vertex mode, creating a Bevel modifier should automatically instantiate with its setting set to Vertices, not default to Edges.
Vanilla Blender development decisions for UI/UX should adopt the same strategy as authors of addons mentioned above who recognise good modelling UI means keeping the modellers eyes and mouse on the object and in the Viewport, not in some side panel off to the right.

Such a PR does exist...no idea if it move forward, though.
