WASM Plugins
A plugin system that can access native apis, bypassing the need for Python, would allow for more performant custom tools.
Using a WASM runtime would mean people would not be stuck with C++ if not desired.
I am aware of the FAQ listing regarding a C++ API, but I thought it was worthwhile starting this discussion for a brighter future.

developer.blender.org/docs/handbook/new_developers/faq/ They have already stated that this won't be a priority but I'm really looking forward to this. I'd really enjoy writing custom geometry nodes ( like advandced solvers for simulation nodes ) in rust.
Basic implementation could be a node that can loads a specific WASM executable (kind of like VST plugins inside geometry nodes ).
This is a request for quite a niche field. And a plugin model is still a plugin model and therefore falls directly in the C++ API discussion.
Besides that: The target audience for wasm is small. I don't see the value of developing and maintaining an API for a small audience, when there are so many other topics that needs to be solved.
Best approach would be to try to see what is required to support this by making a prototype and see who is interested (from user and development point of view). If the audience is large enough and it won't violate GPL based software (e.g. is a backdoor) you might have a case.
