Import fbx animation to an existing Armature?

Working mainly with FBX files, and how is this still impossible to import an fbx animation to an existing armature? I tried using action editor to select animation's armature action, but it will only work if animation's armature will have same tpose as your main armature.

It's not just an FBX issue, Blender can't easily target a new data to an existing asset.

I dream of a day where we can do like in Unreal Engine, importing an asset allows you to chose if you want to import the contained model/material/texture/animation or use existing one.

This would reduce data loads significantly and remove a lot of cleaning afternoons.

Is there a way to create a retarget map in Blender? When you import the FBX into an armature, will it ask for a 'retarget map' something like : Bone001 = Head_Bone , Bone002 = Clavicle_bone , etc ?

AFAIK not out of the box, you need addons like Rokoko for that.
