Knife Tool workflow improvements

Maybe it's more a Papercut than an actual enhancement but still:

The knife options should be displayed on pressing the hotkey, by default. Currently if you want to change the way the knife tool works (cut through and only selected) you can't invoke the tool by hotkey. Otherwise it will use the default/last settings without asking. Which is not ideal at all since the knife does not let you change these options after the fact. image|212x105

I think the knife needs instand displayed options and additionally a way to invoke it again without needing to press the hotkey again, first. Modo for example uses a Shift-Click to re-invoke most tools. So shift Klicking would end the cut. Apply it and immeadiatle start a new one with the current settings.

I can't reproduce this. Invoking the Knife tool via a hotkey (as we do in the IC keymap) works like normal.

* @billrey * We are talking about the default [K] hotkey here, right?

* @motionblur.of.doom * they're acting as if they don't understand what you mean, excuse them. @billrey, please don't be too dismissive like this, I take it you know quite well what this is about.

@motionblur.of.doom You mean the knife modal operator, which is different from the tool in that it stops after you're done, whereas the tool version stays active. As I said on devtalk, you can access those commands through hotkeys which appear at the bottom of the window after pressing K.

There is a motion to have these hotkeys invoke the tools instead of the "old" modal operators, so you wouldn't have this trouble anymore - not sure what the state of it is, but last I heard it was being discussed on the project tracker.

* @Hadrien Brissaud * Yes, that is partly what I meant. Another thing (correct me if I'm mistakten, here) is that for example "only selected" isn't available as a modal, is it? I have to admit that it also never ocurred to me that the modals would even include options that aren't available through the UI. And that is despite that I am using modal options on other tools very regularly.

(edit) as I just found out, though. Pressing [Alt] then [K] also invokes the tool. Sorry, but that wasn't clear to me at all, before.

* @motionblur.of.doom * I don't think it is. (I don't really use it.) Cheers, I didn't know about alt+k. I have tools bound to spacebar thought so that might be why.
