Selection through gizmo

While using the move gizmo or any other, sometimes it will position itself over top of geometry i'm trying to select. Maybe the properties value of tweak distance could be used to fix this for example, if a left click is pressed and released but the tweak distance is not activated, register this as trying to select geometry instead of selecting the gizmo and doing nothing.

some say :
click & drag = gizmo action
simple click = selection

Sounds very good. This would also prevent misclicks moving objects around?

I don't think this would solve the problem but I was having a look in preferences and found you can disable the left click anywhere and drag. This means you have to click on the gizmo to move things, similar to max. To make things easier in this mode I also added the ability to use the box select tool to save time switching between tools. Hopefully this is built in with a future release of Blender.

You can add extra functions under the move tool in preferences, one each for selecting, adding to selection, and subtracting selection. 'view3d.select_box' is what needs to go in the boxes, same will need doing for rotate and scale. Image

This seems to have been implemented in the latest Blender 2.80 builds

* @martinez.fg11 * Yes indeed. Quote from 3rd june Developers Meeting Notes :

Gizmos now activate on drag after a small distance, which allows clicking to select items behind gizmos. There are now separate drag thresholds for mouses and pen tablets. (Campbell Barton)

So this proposal's status Dev should be set to "Done".
