1 = Toggle hide collections
You might be like me where you've accidentally hit
1
and suddenly hidden all your collections except the first one.
To fix this you drag your mouse to the Outliner and press
Alt
+
H
.
But I propose making
1
a
toggle
key (as well as
2
,
3
,
4
, etc)
Press
1
hides the collections except the first.
Press
1
again unhides the collections. Simple!
To press
1
is an easy mistake, but with toggle it has an easy fix.

Shift+1,2,3 etc. can toggle - to show and hide collections. And collections can be nested. Rather ask for collections to be able to work with isolation mode (shortcut /). I like your idea, but more generally, adding new ways of doing something cause normal ways do not work like some would expected (legacy or necessary exceptions !) - may be, in my opinion, easy way to make Blender bloated.
@rafevo - I like your even handed approach to the concept, and so I took some time to think through what you've said.
I can understand how the many ideas that are submitted to right-click select can sometimes be radical and are ready to throw out established workflows in favour of the new. My idea, however, isn't one of those ideas.
I personally don't like the way pressing
1,2,3etc hides collections, but instead of creating an entirely new function to replace what I don't like, I instead offered a simple remedy to a problem it creates, and one that doesn't impede other features. You're right,
Shift+1,2,3does toggle (I didn't know that before so thank you for sharing this). But that's a very deliberate command when you do this, and I'm talking about when you accidentally press
1.To include a toggle by hitting
1again isn't feature creep, nor is it problematic in the way you describe it might be.I'd ask you to reconsider this idea, and perhaps even give it your support by giving it an upvote.
@matbrady - I agree, that your proposition does not go into the same category as "bloated functions". It was only some digression, how I see a fix to that trouble. If it is not possible, your proposition is a natural improvement, and hopefully, it can be implemented in future.
this seams to be gone in latest versions, current workin with versio 3.2.1 Any idea where this is gone?
I use 3.3.1 version. Toggle collections shortcut is working fine. I am not aware if it was removed somewhere along the way.
Yes please, i used this shortcut a lot while in 2.79 but since then, i don't use it at all, and sometime hit it by accident, and are effraid for a second when ctrl+h or / doesn't work.
That's exactly right. It fills you with a sense of panic when suddenly most of your scene disappears. (Not fun). And then you're left wondering what happened (with what workflow) and how do I fix it?
The intuitive thing to do is to hit the same key that you just pressed to undo the mess you just made.
And that's why I'm asking for a toggle to be put in.
You get it, softyoda. (I saw your upvote).
Thank you! :)
you can also ctrl+z to fix it
I tested this, and you're right, it does work.
While I appreciate that Blender allows for this, it's still inconvenient to have to
Cntl+Zafter making an easy mistake, and having1,2,3, etc as toggles doesn't hurt other parts of Blender.A toggle function allows a quick fix to a quick mistake.
If you agree with what I just said, give the idea an upvote. :)
I happen to prefer ctrl+z but I won't downvote. What I would really prefer is improvements to the keymap management to make it easier for everyone to configure everything exactly how they want it. I would prefer if
1 2 3 4 5 6toggled subdivision modifier levels and if ctrl+shift+alt+(1-9) toggled collection visibility.I agree with your suggestion to improve Blender's keymap management, and I would prefer the more radical change like what you've suggested, but that is a much larger ask than simply allowing a toggle feature. To upvote my toggle idea won't invalidate your larger key management idea. Go on, thinsoldier, give my idea an upvote. :)
