4.3 Grease Pencil eraser regressions
I've noticed that while Grease pencil in 4.3 has been improved significantly, I think the eraser is worse in a few ways.
- The Hard and Soft eraser are vastly different than from 4.2 and function identically to each other in 4.3. Both erasers affect the stroke significantly and soften the edges from where the stroke is erased. The hard eraser does not do a hard cutoff (Like the asset icon suggests) and the soft eraser is not soft enough, cutting off the strokes more than it should (see image for reference)
- The strokes aren't being properly cut off like the documentation says they do. While the point eraser works spectacularly, both the soft and hard eraser with "Dissolve" enabled does not cut up the strokes reliably, unlike in 4.2 where after the points are erased they are sliced and deleted. The strokes CAN be sliced but with much more difficulty (see image below)
- I like the new "Active Layer" and "Keep Caps" options, but various options from the previous eraser tool are missing (Occlude, Affect Strength, and Affect Thickness)
I'm assuming due to the rewrite, some of these features didn't transfer over, but I didn't see the eraser regressions being addressed anywhere (with the documentation saying something that doesn't hold up in my own experience) so I wanted to make this proposal here.
