Add Theme Support for Node Sockets
What?
Right now, the colors of node sockets
are hardcoded
.
I think it would be cool if themes could have their own colors for these sockets.
Problems that need to be addressed:
- Forwards compatibility: If a theme does not specify socket colors (because the theme was made in an older version of Blender), then it should be updated with the default socket colors.

Down voting. UI customization of this level is completely unnecessary and has zero production value.
I wouldnt say there is 0 production value. I custom themed my Node Categories to be different colors and it would be appreciated to have the Node Sockets also reflect that. Maybe if changing the Category Theme would also change the socket color, it could be useful.
I would argue that there is some value to custom socket colors: Accessibility.
Here's a simple test: What socket type(s?) am I using?
If your answer was "I can't tell, they look the same" or "You're cheating, you're hiding their value," then perhaps you have come to the realization that user-generated content can be really hard to use/understand .
Brushing aside every kind of color blindness (and that's a lot of people to push aside), the other reason I want to have this level of customization is consistency. You can change the color of almost every part of Blender. To my knowledge, there's two things you can't change the color of:
...and node socket color customization looks substantially easier to implement.
One could argue that any colour customization doesn't have any production value.
You can do everything with Blenders dark theme, and it is quite unlikely that any other colour theme would increase productivity.
But it is quality of life improvement. While there is an option to customize colours, which allows you to change almost every colour in UI, it feels a bit restricted when there are these rare expectations to that.
You can change the Node colours by type, so why not sockets and noodles too?
I'm building a low saturation light theme, and would really love to tone down those brighter socket colours.
